Straight about parts

Memory and storage are the story of 2026

Repair labour here has not changed. What has changed is what a stick of RAM or an SSD costs to buy in, so those are quoted on the day with the supplier invoice shown.

Parts market · September 2026live issue
Memory (DDR5)AI datacentres bought the capacity≈ 4.9× July 2025
SSD / NAND1 TB consumer drive, roughly doubled≈ 2× late 2025
Graphics cardsThird hike of 2026; VRAM is most of the cost+20–30% this round
Labour rates hereUnchanged since 2024no change

What this means for you: my prices below are labour. Parts are quoted at cost on the day and you see the supplier invoice — no margin hidden in a part.
If a repair needs memory or storage, it is worth asking whether the machine can wait: analysts expect the first real relief in 2027.

Repair questions

Laptop and PC repairs, answered

Diagnosis is free and there is no charge if it can't be fixed. A screen is €109–€199 fitted, a battery €79–€169, virus removal €69–€89, an OS reinstall €79–€99, a full tune-up €59, and data recovery €99–€249 with no charge if no data comes back. Get an instant figure from the repair estimator.
Because they genuinely are. Memory is running at roughly five times its mid-2025 price and consumer SSDs have about doubled since late 2025, driven by manufacturers shifting capacity to AI datacentre demand. Labour here has not changed — fitting an SSD with data migration is still €69 — but the part itself is quoted at cost on the day, with the supplier invoice shown. Analysts expect the first real relief in 2027, so an upgrade that can wait probably should.
Software work is usually same or next day. Anything needing a part depends on the part: I order fresh for the exact model rather than holding stock, which takes two to four working days but means you get the right component instead of a near-enough one. You get a firm quote once the model is confirmed, before anything is ordered; the part is paid for when you approve it, and labour on collection.
No — no MacBooks, iPhones or iPads. It is better to say that plainly than to take the job and do a mediocre version of it. For Apple hardware you want an authorised service provider. Windows laptops and PCs, Samsung and Android phones and tablets, and games consoles are all fine.
You'll get an honest answer, including the answer that costs me the job. As a rough rule: if the repair is over half the price of a comparable replacement and the machine is more than five years old, replacing usually wins. A 2019 laptop needing a screen and a battery is rarely worth it; the same laptop needing an SSD often is.
Not if it can be avoided. Data comes first: where the drive is readable it gets imaged or copied before anything invasive happens, and a data-safe route is chosen over a faster destructive one by default. If you are reading this before something goes wrong, that is what backup is for.
